What do you notice first when you are meeting people for the first time in a social or shidduch setting? Remarkably, in a recent American survey, 94% of those responding said the first thing they notice is a person’s smile. In the same survey, 87% of respondents who had undergone Cosmetic Dentistry to improve their smile said that they felt more self esteem and confident as a result of their treatment.
From my own personal experience as a cosmetic dentist, I see the boost in self esteem that a beautiful smile gives on a daily basis. Patients who come for their initial consultation are often embarrassed to smile and sometimes try and cover their mouth with their hand when they talk to me. Alternatively, they smile with closed lips without showing their teeth. In a short period of time as a result of tooth whitening or six month orthodontics, I see a massive change in their personalities. Suddenly, they are more confident, open and smile with pride. From being a part of their body they are embarrassed about and try and hide, their new, beautiful smile becomes their strongest feature and years of shame disappears in an instant.
